Check Your Blood Pressure

January 29, 2026

High blood pressure is very common in the US. Nearly half of adults have it. What is it exactly? Blood pressure that is consistently above 130/80mm. It means your blood is putting pressure on the walls of your arteries.

Do you have it?

The only way to tell is to check it.

There are usually no warning signs or symptoms. But if you have diabetes, you likely have high blood pressure. And unmanaged high blood pressure causes damage to major organs like your heart, brain, eyes and kidneys over time.

Blood Pressure Classes

South Heartland offers classes that teach participants how to monitor their own blood pressure and make lifestyle change modifications to improve blood pressure:

  • Physical activity 30 minutes a day, 5 days a week
  • Not smoking
  • Eating a healthy diet, including limiting salt and alcohol
  • Keeping a healthy weight
  • Managing stress

In addition to making positive lifestyle changes, some people with high blood pressure need to take medicine to manage their blood pressure.

Don’t be a statistic! Learn your numbers and start managing your high blood pressure today!
